Sea Fever, on VOD

This was released on various platforms in 2020, and I wanted to watch it probably since before it was released, because it was associated with the YouTube channel Dust, though I'm not sure how much they may have had to do with the film's production. In any event, I didn't get around to watching it until 2023. It was supposed to have a theatrical release, but didn't because of Covid-19, which is why I'm classifying it as a web film. It's not often that I watch films that were just generally released on VOD on multiple platforms, rather than specific streaming services, but whatevs. Um... so anyway, I'm glad to have finally seen it, I thought it was okay. But nothing special.
There's this introverted Irish student named Siobhán who is basically forced by her professor to go on a short fishing trip aboard a trawler, which will significantly affect her final grade. So she's not really eager to go, but she doesn't have much choice. And when the boat's crew find out she's a redhead, they're not exactly happy to have her aboard, because her hair color is considered bad luck. And um... eventually some strange sea creature attaches tendrils to the boat, which eat through the hull, and deposit some kind of slime on the boat. The slime turns out to contain parasites (or larvae) which infect some of the crew, resulting in their deaths. Also the boat's radio is damaged so they can't contact the coast guard or anyone. And Siobhán thinks they should quarantine themselves rather than return to shore, to avoid starting an epidemic. (The movie came out in the midst of Covid-19, as I said, so apparently various reviewers drew some comparisons to that, but of course the movie was made prior to the pandemic, and watching it a few years later, I didn't draw any parallels, really.) But the remaining crew would rather get to land as soon as possible.
And that's all I want to say about the plot. I don't feel the need to even name any of the crew members. It's just... *shrug* it's just a movie I watched, y'know? I thought it was worth mentioning, but probably mainly because I'm sort of a fan of Dust. (Though I think they've done some other films that I'll probably never watch.) I don't know what else to tell you.
