Western shows

Let's begin...

Little House on the Prairie
IMDb; TV Tome

I used to watch this when I was a kid. I dunno what to say about it. I liked it. It had a good cast. I don't remember alot of it. But I definitely liked it better than "The Waltons." Of course, both were period shows. This one was set farther back than that one, but they both always seemed fairly similar to me. Family shows set in earlier times, about very sort of old-fashioned families. And stuff. Except of course "the Waltons" wasn't a Western or anything. Yep, that's about all I can think to say. Tier 5 maybe, though objectively I'm sure it deserves to be higher.

Ned Blessing: The Story of My Life and Times, CBS
IMDb; TV Tome

This was a very brief series, a very bizarre kind of show. I don't remember it well, but I'd love to see it again. A weird town with weird people. I don't know what to say. It was just weird. And really cool. We liked the Wren, played by Brenda Bakke, who'd later be on "American Gothic" (see supernatural & paranormal shows). Hard to say where this would go, but let's say tier 3. Maybe higher, I dunno.

Outlaws, CBS
IMDb; TV Tome

An interesting show. Back in the old West, there were a group of outlaws, and then one of them quit his life of crime and became a sheriff, and then one night he was facing down his old gang, and there was this electrical storm, and lightning hit them and transported them a hundred years into the future (1986). And then they all fought crime together. And y'know, they'd be walking side by side all Western-style and each have some little snippet of a phrase he'd say, which all worked together, and I can only remember that the end of the thing was the youngest one said "...to the hilt," I wish I could remember everyone's piece... It was cool, or something. Anyway, a fun show. Don't remember it well, but it was fun. Yeah, it was ridiculous, but so frickin' what? Since it was set in the present, I guess it's not technically a Western, but this is where I think I'll put it, anyway. Um... I guess I'll say tier 4, but it could be better or worse, I'm not sure.

Paradise, CBS
IMDb; TV Tome

Later renamed Guns of Paradise (TV Tome). I don't remember it all that well, but I liked it while it was on. Um, this gunfighter named Ethan Cord had to raise his dead sister's kids, I guess. I think he became the town marshal or something. There was a woman named Amelia who was sort of a love interest, I guess. We liked her. His niece was kinda cute, too. I guess there were some decent characters, but like I say, I don't remember it well. Well, let's say... tier 4 or so. Maybe higher if I remembered it better, I dunno.

Peacemakers, USA, Wednesdays 10pm
IMDb; TV Tome

Set in the 1880s, the show is about Federal Marshall Jared Stone, whose new deputy, Larimer Finch, is a former Pinkerton agent from Chicago who uses new forensic techniques. They are often assisted by the local mortician, Katie Owen (who we like). Katie is also raising her younger sister Amy (who we also kinda like). Another recurring character is a teenager called Chipper who helps out sometimes, because he'd like to become a marshall himself, someday. Not sure what else to say at the moment, but the show's not bad. I'd say worthy of tier 3, at least.

The Wild, Wild West, CBS
IMDb; TV Tome

Well, I suppose I haven't seen too much of this. It was rerunning on TNT for awhile, like Saturday mornings or something. I don't know where it is, currently, if anywhere. But in any event, the main characters were James West and Artemus Gordon, who were agents of the U.S. Secret Service back in the Old West. And they travelled around and had various adventures. They had some gadgets and whatnot. They had some recurring enemies, the best of whom was Miguelito Loveless (who you might remember as a guest star on an episode of Star Trek). It was really a fun, cool, funny series. I'd probably put it on tier 4, but that's just cuz I haven't seen much. I'm sure it's worth at least tier 3. Anyway, there were a couple of TV movies later. The Wild Wild West Revisited (IMDb; Movie Tome) was probably even funnier than the series, and great fun, big adventure. The villain was Miguelito's son, who had like planted bombs under various major world cities I think, and had like androids that replaced world leaders or something. I forget. I suppose I could be confusing part of the plot with the next movie, More Wild Wild West (IMDb; Movie Tome). I don't really remember what happened in that, but I don't think I liked it nearly as well as the first movie.
Of course, later there was a theatrical movie, Wild Wild West (IMDb; Movie Tome), starring Will Smith as Jim West. It was a decent movie, but not really quite like the series, not really quite as good, IMO, despite the fact that Will Smith is one of the coolest actors on the planet. The villain was Arliss Loveless, who apparently was supposed to be something like Miguelito, except that instead of being a little person, he had lost his legs in the war or whatever. And he had this whole big obsession about the South rising again, and stuff.
