tek's fairly well-liked supernatural & paranormal shows
(caution: potential spoilers)

Let's begin...

Brimstone, FOX
IMDb; TV Tome

Sometimes reruns on Sci-Fi Channel.
I haven't seen all of this, so I'd really like to see the whole thing sometime. If I did, I imagine it'd be on a higher tier. Anyway, this dead cop named Ezekial Stone goes to Hell, then comes back to recapture a bunch of evil spirits or dead guys or whatever. And the Devil shows up once in awhile to bother him. And it's a depressing and dark show, but it's pretty good.

Dead Last, WB
IMDb; TWoP; TV Tome

Didn't last too long. I enjoyed it well enough while it was on, but I'm already starting to forget it. Anyway, this band found this amulet that let them see and talk with ghosts, and not always know they were ghosts at first. And so they had to help the ghosts take care of their unfinished business. And they couldn't get rid of the amulet or this obligation until they themselves were dead. Anyway, they found this all quite a hassle most of the time. Y'know, they just wanted to get to their gigs and play, and whatnot. It was kind of a fun and amusing little show. Nothing too serious.

FreakyLinks, FOX
IMDb; TWoP; TV Tome

A fairly decent show about this guy who took up his seemingly dead brother's quest for all kinds of weird paranormal stuff, and he and a few friends maintain a website about it. Um... I already don't remember it too well, but I did like it. It was interesting and definitely should've lasted longer. Maybe if it had it'd be on a higher tier.

G vs E
IMDb; TV Tome

Aka "Good vs. Evil," sometimes reruns on Sci-Fi Channel.
I haven't seen all of this, but it was certainly interesting. So, there are these dead guys who come back to life and work for this sort of police-like agency which looks for Faustians (people who made deals with the Devil) and Morlocks, who are demons or something, former Faustians. And they have to like kill the Morlocks or whatever. I dunno, I haven't seen much, but it's an odd and humorous and cool show, very 70's-influenced, and stuff. Kind of weird and dark... And no one who knew these cops when they were alive recognize them now and they're not supposed to have contact with anyone from their past lives. It's kinda depressing. But yeah, funny and stuff. I suppose it'd be on a higher tier if I saw more of it, or whatever.

Hex

John Doe, FOX
IMDb; Sci-Fi Channel; TV.com; TWoP; Wikipedia

Reruns on Sci-Fi Channel, Fridays 7pm.
This guy wakes up on some island with no memories of who he is or anything (which is why he calls himself John Doe, of course), but he knows all the facts in the world. I mean like, anything you could possibly look up... he doesn't have to. Which means he can also do things like fly planes, speak any language, do martial arts, and so forth. As the need arises. Also he has some weird symbol on his skin like a birthmark or something. And he's color-blind; or at least, he sees in black and white. I don't think that's supposed to be what color blindness is, but what do I know? Of course, he makes plenty of money doing various things like gambling, playing the stock market, etc.

Anyway, he starts hanging out at a bar run by a guy named Digger, who has a mysterious background. They become friends. And when a waitress who works there named Karen Kawalski (who we like) gets fired, she becomes John's assistant. Doe desperately wants to find out who he is and stuff, but meanwhile, he helps the cops solve cases. Mainly he works with a detective named Frank Hayes, and his boss, Lt. Jamie Avery (played by Jayne Brook, who we've always quite liked). We may occasionally see a few other people who work for the police, but the only one I really remember is Stella (who we like), who's like... a computer expert or whatever, I dunno. Anyway, occasionally Doe gets clues about his past, and it seems to evolve a mysterious organization called the Phoenix Group, who are interested in Doe, always up to bad stuff, and always one step ahead of Doe. The NSA are also interested in the group. Not sure what else to say right now....

Kindred: The Embraced, FOX
IMDb; TV Tome

Based on like a trading card game/RPG kind of thing about Vampires. I never had a chance to really get into or learn anything about the games, but I understand this show doesn't get it quite right. It's still a pretty good show and a fair introduction to the games' spin on the whole Vampire mythology, which is one of the most interesting takes on such things, ever. There are a bunch of different clans of vampires, each with their own special attributes, skills, appearances, personalities, and so forth. Each clan has a primogen who represents them on a council in each city, and each city has a prince who rules all the clans. Usually the prince is a member of clan Ventrue. Um, anyway, this show focuses on one city (San Francisco, I believe) and the inter-clan politics and some humans who get involved, a cop and a reporter, I believe. We certainly like Brigid Walsh and Kelly Rutherford, and there were some other cool people in the cast, whose work I've enjoyed in other stuff. Um, what else to say? It didn't last long, which is a shame. It was a cool and rather stylized show, dark and interesting and stuff. Might be on a higher tier if yadda yadda yadda.

Millennium, FOX
Fox Home; IMDb; TV Tome

There's this organization called the Millennium Group, which consists of people who used to be like cops and federal agents and whatnot. People who are very good at what they do, but are officially retired I guess. And they know there's some seriously evil shit out there that's gonna be going down soon. Well, it's going on already and has been for like a thousand years or something. And the end of the world is coming or something. I dunno, I don't remember it too well and I never saw the whole series. But it was very dark. Hard to watch. Seemed terribly nihilistic. Like, they were fighting the bad stuff in the world, but it was really hopeless. I dunno. I think the group itself had its secrets, its history, and wasn't entirely good itself. But one member, the show's main character, was Frank Black (not the singer). Now there's a guy who's just... I dunno. Doesn't seem very happy. Let's just use that understatement. Okay, kind of stoic. And stuff. I dunno. But anyway, he had a wife and a daughter. His wife was played by Megan Gallagher, who we very much like. I think she was a psychologist or something. Um, well, I dunno what else to say about the show. Did I mention it was very dark?

The Others, NBC
IMDb; TWoP; TV Tome

A decent show about a group of people with different sorts of psychic abilities. Not really one of my favorite shows, but I did like it and wished it would've lasted longer. I don't really even remember it well enough to describe it, though. Kevin J. O'Connor was in it, and I've always enjoyed his film work. Not sure what else to say. There were some evil forces working against the Others, I guess. But they didn't get too much into that until the end of the show, I think. It only lasted about a season, maybe less.

Strange Luck, FOX
IMDb; TV Tome

There was this guy named Chance Harper who was like the only survivor of a plane crash. And he had really good luck, and weird stuff happened to him. I guess. And I guess we kinda like Pamela Gidley and Frances Fisher. I dunno what else to say, but this show came very close to crossing over with the X-Files one time. It was a strange show, anyway, and cool, and stuff. I wish it had lasted longer, and that I'd seen more of it, and that I remembered it better. I'm certain that it would have been on a higher tier....
