I don't remember this well enough to rate it.

Mansfield Park, on ITV (UK)
IMDb; PBS (archived); TV Tropes; Wikipedia

This aired in the U.K. in 2007 and in the U.S. in 2008. Well, it should be noted that before seeing this TV movie, I had several years earlier caught a different adaptation of the novel, and when I watched this, all I really remembered about it was the name of the main character, Fanny Price. Of course, when I watched this, I was drinking a few beers, and it was late and I was tired, and I didn't pay complete attention to it anyway. Couldn't really follow everything that was going on, but I found it entertaining enough not to bother going to bed til it was over. Still, I thought it was strange that I didn't remember the story at all... not to say there wasn't anything familiar about it, but that it was vague enough to be dismissed as just seeming... well, Jane Austen-y.

Anyway, I missed the very beginning, but probably not more than a couple of minutes, I think. But it starts with Fanny Price, at age 10, being sent to live at Mansfield Park, with wealthy relatives, the Bertrams. Then it flashes forward to when Fanny (Billie Piper) is 18. She's in love with her cousin, Edmund Bertram, who is to become a clergyman.

Anyway, there are a brother and sister named Henry and Mary Crawford (Hayley Atwell), and the two of them spend a lot of time at Mansfield Park with the Bertrams (and Fanny). Like I said, I didn't follow everything that went on. But anyway, Fanny's uncle and aunt, Sir Thomas and Lady Bertram, had four kids I guess. The oldest, Tom, isn't seen that much I think, as he's often away drinking and gambling. The eldest daughter, Maria (Michelle Ryan) is engaged to a man named Rushworth, and I think the younger daughter, Julia, was interested in Henry Crawford. I was never entirely sure if he was more interested in Julia or Maria, but eventually he turns his attention on Fanny, and Sir Thomas is upset that Fanny isn't interested in Henry. Mary, meanwhile, is interested in Edmund, who is close friends with Fanny, but has no idea of her true feelings for him. He's interested in Mary, but she doesn't want him to become a clergyman, because there's no money in it.

Well, there's more drama and whatnot. I dunno. It also has a happy ending. Not sure what else to say, but it was decent enough. Though perhaps I was mostly just interested in looking at the attractive women, which of course is always good incentive to take another swig of beer.... (Man I suck at writing reviews.)
