Let's begin...
I almost never watch this. Seriously. But sometimes they have an interesting subject. Like Catwoman. I liked that episode. Can't think of any others I've watched, but I'm sure even if I haven't seen any, there've been ones I would've liked. Usually it's more serious, though.
Comic Book Superheroes Unmasked, History Channel
IMDb
A documentary on the History Channel. Did a pretty good job talking about the history of comic books, from the beginning, up through the state of the industry today. Which isn't as good as it should be, unfortunately. Comic books totally rock. Very cool, and also often pretty smart, and a great reflection of the times, even an influence on the times, sometimes. Dunno what else to say.
Fantastic Voyage: The Evolution of Science Fiction, History Channel
no IMDb or TV Tome entry
This was a documentary on the History Channel. Can't think what to say about it that the title doesn't suggest all by itself. It was hardly a comprehensive history, but I think they did better than one might've expected, with just two hours. I have it on tape somewhere, but I doubt watching it again would give me any idea of what else to say. It was good, though.
Forever Summer with Nigella, British
IMDb; TV Tome
Reruns on Style Channel.
I think Nigella Lawson was a model or something, but I never heard of her before I saw this show while channel surfing. And I've never watched more than a few minutes of the show, but it's good. Oh, it's a cooking show. The food she made looked quite good, and so did she. We like her. I guess she also does a show called Nigella Bites (IMDb), but I don't think I've seen it.
French in Action
IMDb
An educational show which tried to teach French, but I never learned anything from it. The whole show was in French, you know. But I didn't watch it regularly, anyway. So why bother watching it at all? One word: Mireille. Oh yes, we so very much like Mireille.
Ground Force, British
IMDb; TV Tome
BBC America. Um, well, I don't currently get the channel. And I'm not too interested in this show, but it can be mildly interesting, if there's nothing better to watch. In any event, it's about a few people who come to people's homes and do some landscaping, apparently as a surprise for one person who lives there, from someone else to lives there, I guess. They certainly do a very good job of it. And of course, we like Charlie....
The Haunted History of Halloween, History Channel
IMDb
This documentary airs every October on the History Channel. Talks about how Halloween came to be, going back to Pagan times, Celtic rituals, the Church taking over, Dias de los Muertos, all the changes that happened in colonial America, up through the present day. It's pretty interesting stuff. If you like Halloween, which happens to be probably my favorite holiday....
Lorne Greene's New Wilderness, Canadian
IMDb
I used to watch this when I was a kid. Sometimes. Not much to say about it, really. It was a wilderness show hosted by Lorne Greene. I suppose there are plenty of cable channels nowadays on which you could see lots of different stuff of this nature. Anyway, I once wrote a very short story for a grade school assignment. It was about buying kangaroos as pets, and I wrote that this was the kangaroo's favorite show. That was a pretty random thing to say just now, wasn't it? How about this: bits of Vanessa Carlton's song "A Thousand Miles" remind me of the theme music from this show.
The Nature of Things, CBC
CBC; IMDb; TV.com; Wikipedia
I don't know how much of this I ever watched, but I'm sure I must have at least occasionally seen a bit of it when I was a little kid. To be honest, I don't really remember anything at all about the show except the host, David Suzuki. In fact I don't remember anything about him except what he looks like, and I think I always liked the guy. I sort of feel like maybe I knew Suzuki from something else, but I doubt it. Also I have this vague impression of there being a robot on the show for some reason. I'm probably wrong about that. But anyway, I guess it was a show about natural science. Wish I could say more, but at least I had to mention it in passing, because I have a vague sense of nostalgia about the show, or at least about Suzuki himself. Sort of. Who knows, maybe liking this Japanese-Canadian guy when I was a very little kid in some way helped mold my developing psyche in such a way that I'd end up appreciating Japanese stuff the way I do today... but then again, that's probably a stupid theory....
Samantha Brown
IMDb; Travel Channel; TV.com; Wikipedia
We like her quite a bit. If I'm channel surfing and come across one of her shows, I'll often stop for at least a few minutes. I'll probably never be able to afford to go to any of the places she shows us on any of her shows, but I don't mind so much, cuz it's just so much fun to watch her show and tell us about these places. It doesn't much matter which show you're watching, as long as she's there, it's all good.
First saw her on Girl Meets Hawaii. Later Great Hotels (IMDb; TV.com; Wikipedia) and Great Vacation Homes (TV.com). Of course, I've haven't seen much of any of this, but anything she's in is always worth checking out.
The Screen Savers, TechTV
IMDb; TV Tome
Well, I don't get to see much of this, not having TechTV. I might see a bit at a relative's house or something. Not something I'm much interested in watching all of, anyway. Um, so like, it's about computers and stuff. So it basically falls into one of a few categories. Stuff I already know; stuff I won't understand anyway; and stuff I might understand while watching it, but won't remember later. Oh yeah, and stuff I can't afford to buy. But whatever, it's probably a fairly useful show for a lot of people, so you should check it out if you get the chance.
