Caution: spoilers.
This airs on Adult Swim, which I don't currently get. In its second season, it moved to Adult Swim's "Toonami" programming block. The show started in 2023, but I didn't get to start watching it until 2025, on Max/HBO Max. The art style is very anime-ish, which I quite like. It's a rather wholesome sort of show, which I think feels a bit out of place in the Adult Swim lineup, so it's probably a good idea that it moved to Toonami. Still, it's not all fun and games. Things get pretty serious, and the drama intensifies as the series progresses. I really like everything about the show: the animation, the friendships, the romance, the action, the drama, the humor, and the overall story.
Season One
At a young age, Clark Kent discovers he has super powers. When he grows up, he moves from Smallville to Metropolis, where he becomes an intern at a newspaper called the Daily Planet, along with his best friend and photographer, Jimmy Olsen. There they meet another intern, an aspiring reporter named Lois Lane. Clark and Lois immediately develop crushes on each other, but it will be awhile before they do anything about it. Meanwhile, Clark begins a second life as a superhero, who soon comes to be known as Superman. As Superman, he tries to uncover the truth about the origin of some very advanced weapons that have worked their way into the hands of criminals. But Lois also investigates the matter, with help from Clark and Jimmy, often putting themselves in danger. And it's not just villains Superman has to worry about; he's also being hunted by a secret government organization called Task Force X, which is led by someone called "the General". Near the end of the season, the General loses command of the group, being replaced by Amanda Waller, though he still works for Task Force X.
Clark doesn't know anything about his own origins, but his parents, Jonathan and Martha Kent, show him the space ship that they found him in as a baby. There's a hologram of a man who tries to talk to Clark, but since he's speaking an alien language, Clark doesn't obtain any useful information from him. However, it eventually turns out that Task Force X knows at least a bit about his origins, or at least they think they do. They had dealt with an alien invasion 22 years earlier, and believe Superman was sent by the aliens as an advance infiltrator. Also, there's an episode that involves an interdimensional organization made up of alternate versions of Lois, who don't trust this universe's Superman, because in other universes, he has turned into a conqueror. This leads our Lois to question whether she can trust him or not, but ultimately she believes in him. She also learns that Clark is Superman, and it turns out that Jimmy had known for years, but didn't tell Clark he knew. Clark and Lois eventually begin dating.
I don't want to spoil too much more about this season, especially some surprises in the season finale. There's something about the General that I had suspected all along, and it turns out I was right. Also I should mention that Jimmy has vlog or whatever, called Flamebird, on which he talks about aliens and various paranormal stuff. There's an important development with that at the end of the season. And Superman has to fend off another alien invasion, destroying one of their ships and closing the portal it had come through. On the other side of the portal, we see a couple of the aliens make plans to continue their conquest of Earth. I guess that's all I want to say for now. I expect I'll have to spoil some things about this season when I watch season two, which I quite look forward to. It really is a fun show.
