Satomi Saeki & Alcvin Takegawa Ramos:
Japanese Traditional Koto and Shakuhachi Music

AllMusic; Amazon; Apple Music; Discogs; Spotify

This came out in 2005, I guess. Not sure when I got it, but I'm listening to it again in 2024. The liner notes have some interesting information about each track (in both English and French), as well as about the artists and their instruments.

1. "Chidori no Kyoku" (Song of the Plover): 11:23 - This piece features both instruments.

2. "Seki Setsu" (Meditation on Rocks and Snow): 7:30 - This was composed by Ramos, and features only the shakuhachi.

3. "Aki no Koto no Ha": 4:41 - This features only the koto.

4. "Rokudan" (Étude in Six Movements): 6:41 - Both instruments.

5. "Sagano": 3:28 - Koto only; composed by Saeki.

6. "Shoganken Reibo" (Yearning for the Bell of the Pine Boulder Temple): 11:45 - Shakuhachi only.

7. "Midare": 9:46 - Koto only.

8. "Fuyu Momiji" (Winter Maple): 5:39 - Both instruments; composed by Ramos and Saeki.

Well, I'm afraid I don't have anything specific to say about any of the individual tracks, but I liked them all. And I feel as if I'd like the CD as a whole better if I were in the proper mood for it, like a meditative mood. When I listened to it to do a review, it was just because it happened to be the closest CD at hand. I also kind of have to say I would never be able to recognize specific pieces of music of this type, my ears just aren't trained for it. I'm used to having lyrics to go by, y'know? But still, it's good music.
