fun. is a pop-rock/indie pop band formed in 2008, though I don't think I'd heard of them until they released their second album.

This is the band's second album, released in 2012. The liner notes contain song lyrics.

1. "Some Nights Intro": Operatic in a way. Kinda reminds me of Queen. I'm a bit iffy on some of the lyrics, though.

2. "Some Nights": This was one of the band's big hits, their second single. Deeply introspective and bombastic. It's one of the reasons I bought the album.

3. "We Are Young" (featuring Janelle Monáe): The first single from the album, probably the band's biggest hit, and another reason I bought the album. Not quite sure how to feel about the lyrics, I mean I don't really think the person the singer is addressing should want to be with him. But it sounds really cool. Although I never noticed Monáe singing anywhere in the song, until I watched the video. And her part was very minor, which disappoints me.

4. "Carry On": The third single, but I don't particularly remember ever hearing it on the radio or TV or anything. I suppose I could have. It's not quite as intense as the first two singles, I'd say, but still more intense than most bands' songs. It's not bad.

5. "It Gets Better": A fairly fun and peppy song.

6. "Why Am I the One": A bit more downbeat and depressing I guess, but the harmonizing is still great.

7. "All Alone": Depressing lyrics, but the sound is happy. (Which is probably a fair description of the album as a whole.)

8. "All Alright": But it was not, in fact, all alright. Decent song, but depressing again. Honestly, the lyrics kinda remind me of how I feel about myself.

9. "One Foot": What do you know, another depressing song that sounds happier than it really should.

10. "Stars": The longest track on the album, at 6:52. Another sort of upbeat lament.

11. "Out on the Town" (bonus track): It's not bad. I don't know what to say that I haven't already said about most of the songs here.

Well, what you think of the album will largely depend on how much you like or dislike auto-tune. Personally I like it, but I like the singing more without it. The whole album sounds good, I think, but the only songs I find memorable are "We Are Young" and "Some Nights". There's a sort of sameness to all the other songs, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's the sort of album I feel like I could put on for background noise and enjoy it without really paying close attention to it. Because paying attention is, as I've noted often enough here, is depressing. If you ignore the lyrics, though, it's a feel-good album.
