tek's mp3s

They say you can tell alot about a person from their record collection. Or CD collection, or something like that. So... I suggest you look at mine. But then, I also think you can tell alot about a person by borrowing their mp3 player. Failing that, you can at least have a look-see what's playing on mine. So, what's on my mp3 player (which is a 1 GB Sansa, btw)? Oh, bunches of things. Sometimes I add something, sometimes I remove something. You know how it is. Um... I must say, I've been downloading (and ripping) mp3s for years now, but I never got an mp3 player until shortly after Christmas 2007 (might've bought it in January 2008, I'm not sure). In the past, I mostly downloaded from various file sharing programs. I think I started in an era where there was some question as to the legality. At this point, I suppose it's fairly common to call it "illegal downloading," which I still don't have much of a problem with, though I don't do it so much anymore, myself. Partly because I have trouble these days getting any P2P program to actually work, partly because I have a wee bit more money than I used to (though I still frequently agonize over whether I can really afford to be paying 99cents for an mp3 from Amazon). But mostly just because mp3s taste better when you pay for them.

There have always been times when I have ripped mp3s from CDs I own, quite legally, so there's nothing wrong with that. And there have always been times when I have downloaded free mp3s legally, from one website or another, where they were offered by the artist or label or what have you. Nowadays I mostly pay to download from Amazon, though. (Or occasionally other sites that sell mp3s legally.) Of course, there are also times I can't find an mp3 or album offering a song I want anywhere, so sometimes I actually create them myself, by converting video to audio and then just taking out the song portion... which may very well mean I illegally download the video in the first place... or maybe I burn it off the TV specifically to rip a song. I dunno. Whatever, I don't feel that bad about it, especially if it's something I couldn't find a DVD of for sale, or if it's something I never would have bought, anyway. So it's not like anyone's losing any potential profits off me, nor are they losing hard copies of anything that they could sell to someone else.

Whatevs. The point is, there are songs on my mp3 player I've paid for, songs I've gotten free legally, songs I've gotten free not so legally, songs I've ripped, mp3s I've created (legally or not so legally) that didn't seem to be available by any other means. And I can't always remember which are which (except obviously for the ones I made myself, and most of the ones I've paid for recently). Therefore: what was I going for with this? Oh yeah, therefore: don't sue me or arrest me or anything, cuz... I'm a good guy, and you don't know if I obtained some stuff here legally or not. And no one's been hurt. The end.

Mp3s I want: "The Power of Destiny" by Jennifer Paige; Kim Possible Theme (Korean version); "Suk or Shine" by Chris and Tad; maybe other stuff I can't think of right now.... Of course, there's plenty of mp3s I plan to rip someday when I get some CDs off my wish list (on rare occasions I might buy an mp3 even if I plan to get the album eventually, though usually I prefer to wait). But then there are plenty of things that don't seem to be available anywhere, in any format.
