You Sleigh Me! (various artists)
AllMusic; Amazon; B&N; Discogs

This was released in 1995, though I didn't get it until 19 years later, in 2014. I wrote a very brief review at the time, but didn't rate it, so I listened to it again in 2021 to do that, and to expand my review while I was at it. The album has several artists with whom I was familiar and several with whom I wasn't.

1. "Run Rudolph Run": by Mary Karlzen, whom I've never heard of. But her rendition isn't bad.

2. "Blue Christmas": by Collective Soul. I don't care about this rendition at all.

3. "Little Drummer Boy": by Tori Amos, of whom I'm a kind of big fan. But I think this rendition is just okay. (Maybe slightly above average for this song, since I'm not a big fan of it to begin with.)

4. "Christmas Lights": by Donna Lewis. I'm not familiar with this song, which I guess is an original. It's not bad, but not really memorable, either.

5. "The First Noel": by Billy Pilgrim, whom I'm fairly sure I've never heard of. I don't really care about this rendition.

6. "Make It Home": by Juliana Hatfield. Another original that I think is okay, but not memorable.

7. "Merry Christmas from the Family": by Jill Sobule. I'm not sure I know her for anything but this song. But for me, this is the highlight of the album. It's also the only one I find really memorable (probably because I saw the video on TV around the time the album came out). And I've never heard it done by anyone else. (The song was originally done by Robert Earl Keen in 1994, but I'm unfamiliar with that version.) Anyway, it's amusing.

8. "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer": by Daniel Johnston, whom I don't think I know for anything else. The less said about this rendition, the better. Seriously.

9. "Christmas": by Dillon Fence, whom I've never heard of. It's another original song. I don't know how I feel about it except to say it's not memorable.

10. "White Christmas": by James Carter, whom I don't think I've heard of. It's friggin' eight minutes long. And It's entirely instrumental (mostly saxophone). I guess it's not bad, if you like saxophones. But I don't feel like it belongs on a Christmas album, because most of it doesn't sound anything like "White Christmas", nor does it sound Christmasy at all.

11. "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas": by Victoria Williams, whom I don't think I know for anything else. It's a sort of interesting rendition. Not bad, but I'm not sure if I like it or not.

12. "25th December": by Everything but the Girl. I think I only knew them for one song before this, but I like it. I don't think I know this song from anywhere else, I guess it's an original. I didn't remember it before re-listening to this album, but once I did, it sounded familiar. Anyway, it's nice, though I don't feel like it has much of anything to do with Christmas.

Well, all in all I'm disappointed that I didn't like songs by familiar artists more than I did. They were mostly just okay. And the unfamiliar artists were a mixed bag at best.
