a few of tek's favorite links

Amazon.com
I've ordered a few things from this site, CDs and books, whatever. When I have money I'll order some more. I've started a wish list, and I can find stuff seriously discounted from 3rd parties, some of which I can't find anywhere else. (Though you gotta be careful not to buy some knockoff copy, alot of the cheap stuff ain't official and the quality may not be as good.) And I've gotten kind of addicted to searching for stuff and discovering things I never woulda heard of, that are linked from things I looked for, and stuff.... Oh yeah, you can even find food there, like say imported Japanese candy, for example... Of course, I also use it for links to DVD and other releases on my site's calendar.

Ask A Ninja
Hilarious little short videos of a guy dressed as a ninja answering viewer letters. I'm not sure if the letters are real or not, but it doesn't matter, the answers are ridiculous and terribly funny. Plus the show has a really catchy theme, part of the song "I M Ninja" by The Neu Tickles.

Blingo
A search engine. It's not really as good as Google, but when you use it, after having registered, there's always a chance you could win stuff.

ComingSoon.net
Has plenty of info on TV, movies, and DVDs, though I mainly just use it as reference when working on my site's calendar.

Distant Horizon Forums
A great place to discuss Avatar: The Last Airbender, as well as other things. Part of the best Avatar site on the internet, Distant Horizon.

DVD Aficionado
Here I keep a list of DVDs I own. Also a wish list, which is way frickin' longer than the owned list, alas.

Everything2
Kind of like Wikipedia (see below), but not nearly as cool. (It doesn't even have pictures!) Still, it's not bad, either. Although it's often very slow-loading. But not always.

the futon critic
Has plenty of info on TV stuff, though I mainly use it as reference when working on my site's calendar.

Google
Best search engine ever. So far. I dunno, plenty of other search engines have been the best search engine ever, and they're all still good. But this one has held onto the top spot longer, it seems. And it's simpler, which is nice. And it has cool logos for special occasions. It also works better as a verb than any of the other engines do. Plus, it offers Gmail. I know, all the major search engines offer email. But Gmail is zeitgeistier, okay? Just like the search engine itself....

The Hollywood Stock Exchange
A really fun game trading fake stocks, bonds, and such, in movies and movie stars.

The Internet Movie Database
One of the most useful reference sites on the Internet, for info on movies, TV, cast and crew, etc. I've submitted a little data, occasionally.

Japan-A-Radio
Astoundingly, this internet radio station streams pretty well, even on my crappy-ass computer with dial-up connection. And they play some great J-pop. I don't listen to it as much as I should, though.

Kawaii-Radio
Don't listen to this much, either, but you know, just like Japan-A-Radio... it plays some great J-pop.

LiveJournal
I have my blog here, as do some friends.

Neopets
Take care of the cute critters of your choice, lots to choose from. Plus play any of countless other games to earn neopoints, to pay for the stuff you need to take care of your pets.

Nihongo: Japanese Language
Very useful if you're interested in translating English words into Japanese, and vice versa. Though unfortunately the site sometimes fails to work for some reason, when it is working it's pretty good.

ProBoards
Well... this has some advantages over ezboards, and some disadvantages. But there are several boards I go to that use this system, including Distant Horizon (see above). And now I have my own board there, Volcano Mountain (mark II). So, whatever, I guess I ought to have the site on my list here....

Retro Junk
Great site with pages for lots of TV shows, movies, and commercials from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, often with opening or closing themes for shows, or trailers for movies.

Things my girlfriend and I have argued about
One of the funniest things on the Internet, written by British columnist Mil Millington. If you don't read this, you... won't know what you're missing, and I think that's just really, really sad. I don't think it's updated anymore, so I don't look at it anymore, but it's still one of the best things ever.

Toonami Jetstream
A streaming video site that shows various anime and cartoons, if you've got broadband. There are several cool shows that I don't watch there, since I've already seen them on TV, but you might want to check them out anyway. They include Naruto, Samurai Jack, Megas XLR, Pokemon Johto Journeys and Pokemon Chronicles. Meanwhile, I do watch a few shows there that I can't see on TV. My favorite is MÄR, which is totally awesome. I also watch Hikaru no Go and Prince of Tennis. And the little Go lessons, which so far haven't proven helpful, but they're kinda fun anyway. And short. And eventually there should be other shows on the site. And best of all, it's all totally free.

TV Tome
One of the most massively useful reference sites for info on TV shows, cast, crew, etc. This merged with C-Net and became TV.com, which everyone I know, including me, thinks sucks didn't really dig at first. It's still quite useful, and it's been growing on me a bit. But I still miss TV Tome.

Urban Dictionary
I don't use this often, but still I think it's an awesome thing to have access to, any random time you might want to know what a slang word or phrase means...

Wikipedia
Best encyclopedia on the Internet, and ever-expanding. Massively useful and cool. I occasionally contribute a bit, start a stub page if there isn't anything on a person or subject I think should be there, or make minor edits to existing pages, mostly adding external links. Check out my user page.

Zap2it
This has some useful info on movies and TV and stuff, though I don't use it for much except looking up upcoming movies, basically as reference when I'm working on my site's calendar.

...Well, that's it for now. Seriously, though, there are a ton more links on all my links pages, many of which are quite useful and/or interesting, so please do yourself a favor and check out my:
