behind the scenes artists: directors, producers, creators, screenwriters, etc.
(These people tend to do be involved in a project in various ways: writing, producing, directing, visual effects, cinematography, etc. In many cases they outright created the project, as well as any other work they might do on it. It's all a bit confusing, so I'm not going to even try to keep track here of each role they played in getting stuff made. If they worked in any capacity on a project I've seen and enjoyed, I'll mention the project, without specifying their role in making it.)
Burton, Tim
Shorts like Vincent and Frankenweenie, as well as feature projects like The Nightmare Before Christmas, Beetle Juice, the first couple Batman movies, Edward Scissorhands, Mars Attacks!, the Planet of the Apes remake (which didn't suck, though it wasn't among his best works), the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory remake (which wasn't among his best works), Sleepy Hollow, Big Fish, Corpse Bride, etc.

Sherman-Palladino, Amy

Straczynski, J. Michael

Tartakovsky, Genndy
Samurai Jack, Star Wars: Clone Wars, Dexter's Laboratory, and he worked on Powerpuff Girls...
