This is the first sequel to Resident Evil. It came out in 2004, but I didn't see it until 2018. It begins with Alice recapping a bit of what happened in the first movie. In the present, the Umbrella Corp. sends some people to reopen the Hive, which immediately turns out to be a huge mistake. Zombies get loose, and soon there's a massive epidemic spreading throughout Raccoon City. Umbrella Corp scientists and their families are immediately evacuated; however, the car that a young girl named Angie Ashford was in gets in a collision, and when rescuers show up, she's already gone missing. Her father, a scientist named Dr. Charles Ashford (who is in a wheelchair) refuses to leave the perimeter Umbrella Corp has set up just outside the city, which is now under quarantine. Meanwhile, there are various people within the city that the story follows. There are a couple of cops (from a special division called STARS) named Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory) and Peyton Wells, who rescue a TV reporter named Terri Morales, and the three of them hide in a cathedral, or whatever. (There was already another guy hiding in there, but he's not important.) They all get attacked by some incredibly fast monsters, I think they were the same ones seen in the first movie, but I don't remember. Anyway, Alice had been awakened in an Umbrella lab, and made her way out into the city, and now she shows up to rescue Jill, Peyton, and Terri.
Elsewhere in the city, a guy named Lloyd Jefferson "L.J." Wade does whatever he can to survive. And there had been a bunch of Umbrella soldiers fighting the hordes of zombies, but apparently the only three to survive are Carlos Oliveira, Nicholai Ginovaef (Zack Ward), and... um... well I thought there were three of them, but I can't remember who the third was. And Wikipedia is no help, it only mentions those two. Maybe I was mistaken. Anyway, I had a lot of trouble keeping track of who everyone was, and how long each person survived. Suffice to say, all the people I've named eventually team up. And they've all been contacted by Dr. Ashford, who offers them help getting out of the city if they can find and rescue his daughter. Meanwhile, the main antagonist in the film (aside from all the zombies, and zombie dogs, and zombie monster things), is an Umbrella guy named Major Timothy Cain. And... there's a really tough monster Umbrella has developed, called "Nemesis," which Cain sets loose to test as a weapon. At first I thought it was going to be used against the regular zombies, but actually... it's used against the good guys. And the ultimate test is a fight against Alice.
I don't want to say who all survives the film and who doesn't, though for now it's safe to assume Alice survives. As for how it all ends... well, I won't spoil that for now. But of course, the ending sets up the next movie....
