This 2017 short film was presented by both Alter and Dust in 2019.
The film is a dramatization of a possible near future in which autonomous drones could be used to kill people... with the drones themselves making the decision, rather than humans. (Of course, they'd have to be programmed with certain physical traits to look for, possibly using facial recognition technology.) They're meant to be used by "the good guys" to kill "bad guys", but who's defined as bad guys is entirely up to whoever's programming the drones, and it doesn't seem like the company that makes them would be particularly discriminating in who they choose to sell to. The scariest part of the film is how the drones could be used to kill anyone whose ideology differs from your own, whether they be politicians or students or anyone else. They cold be used by enemy nations, or terrorists, or even individuals. And their use isn't limited to killing soldiers or criminals or people of different ideologies; they could be programmed to kill for any reason, including bigotry.
The point of the film is to encourage activism to prevent such technology from becoming legal. It's technically science fiction since the technology doesn't exist at this level quite yet, but it very well could in the near future, so it might not be sci-fi for long. It's also dystopian, but again, it's too close to reality for me to feel comfortable filing it there, either. It really is more of an educational film, even if it's about something that hasn't happened yet.
