So, this is like a direct-to-video, live-action prequel to the Scooby-Doo franchise. Daphne Blake and Velma Dinkley are best friends online, but have never met in real life. Until Daphne moves to Velma's hometown... but Velma acts like they're not friends at all. But eventually Daphne convinces Velma to help her investigate something mysterious that's happening to the high school's top students. Daphne also meets a few other students, including a senior advisor named Carol (Vanessa Marano, whom I know from Gilmore Girls, but barely recognized here). We also get to see Daphne's parents. Her mother has just started a job working for Bloom Innovative, a major tech company that has ties to the high school. There's also a subplot about Daphne's dad that I don't want to get into. Anyway, Daphne and Velma get in trouble with Principal Piper (Arden Myrin) several times. As for the mystery itself, I don't want to bother going into that. So I guess I have nothing more to add about the plot. I just want to say, the whole movie is pretty redonkulous, and not in a good way. It's just not that funny most of the time, it's basically just cheesy. Which is a shame, because it really could have been a decent movie if it were better written. I'd love to see a more serious movie that focuses on these two main characters. But oh well.
