Halloween 2007

Sept. 7 Sept. 14 Sept. 18 Oct. 1 Oct. 5 Oct. 12 Oct. 19 Oct. 21 Oct. 29 Oct. 30 Oct. 31 Nov. 1 Nov. 2 Nov. 4 Nov. 9

Seems kinda early to be starting this year's journal, I know. Well, tonight I watched The Haunting Hour: Don't Think About It on Cartoon Network. It wasn't bad. And um, well, it's based on some R.L. Stine story, which puts me in mind to mention that next month Cartoon Network is going to start airing a "Goosebumps" series of his stories. I'm not particularly familiar with the show, but I'm interested to see it. Though at first I thought this was going to be a new series, now I guess it looks like it's going to be the old one. Which is all the same to me, I suppose. Oh, I also wanted to mention that I drank some Hot Apple Cider Tea from Republic of Tea. If you read last year's Halloween journal, you'll see I had some then, too. And yes, this is left over from then. Dammit, there's a lot of tea in that container! And it's still damn fine stuff, really helped get me in the mood for the movie.

Well anyway, I look forward to adding to this year's journal over the next couple months, though it's quite possible I won't have anything else to say until October. We'll see. Oh, I did go to a party store about a week ago and looked at some Halloween stuff. I may do that again sometime, or go to a different Halloween store. Sometime when I have money. If such a situation as my having money ever actually occurs....

Sept. 14

I have wasted pretty much the whole day setting up a new Halloween links page and sights & sounds page. I say "wasted" only because it means I didn't have time to do the countless non-Halloween stuff I need to work on, but whatevs. I'm happy with what I've done today, anyway....

Sept. 18

Just added a few more songs to the audio player on the sights & sounds page. That is all.

Oct. 1

Um, I've probably neglected to say some things. Like I got some kind of ceramic Jack-o-Lantern thing from my dad a while ago, in a package of birthday gifts. Anyway, today I was out to Rite Aid to buy some milk, when I noticed a bag of candy corn taffy (made by Sweet's), and I don't know if I ever had any such thing before. I've a terrible memory. Still, I had to try it, especially since I only saw one bag. So I bought it and back home I dug out a Halloween jar to put it in. And tried a piece. Nice. But I want to save most of it for, you know, Halloween....

Oct. 5

Well, last night I tried some "Jack's Pumpkin Spice Ale" from Anheuser-Busch. You know, over the summer I had tried "Beach Bum Blonde Ale," which was decent, and the label said there was a different special beer for each season. But I forgot. Turns out this pumpkin spice beer was the autumn variety, so I'm glad I tried it. And I look forward to hopefully trying the other seasons. However, this one... well, it was okay, but a bit disappointing. Certainly there are better pumpkin beers out there. Anyway, I guess that's all I had to say for now....

Oct. 12

Well, I haven't really had a chance to see Goosebumps this month cuz it's always on when I'm working, and I'm always recording something else at the time. But tonight I was home so I watched one ep. It wasn't bad I guess. I mean, I didn't see the twist at the end coming... Also there was a Halloween episode of Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends, in 3-D. So I dug out some cardboard 3-D glasses I'd saved from some time when some other show did a 3-D episode....

Oct. 19

Last night (or technically this morning, since I got home from work around midnight) I tried some Pumpkin Ale from Sea Dog, which I liked better than the pumpkin ale I tried a couple weeks ago... Oh, also I've been meaning to mention, for a couple weeks or so I've been drinking some green apple Jones Soda, which tastes rather Halloweeny to me. Or at least Fallish. Or something. It's nearly gone, in spite of my slow pace on the 12-pack, but I think I shall save at least one can to drink on Halloween....

Oct. 21

Yesterday watched Twitches Too, which I recorded awhile ago. Today I wrote a little review of it. Nothing much. The movie was kinda meh. Probably forgetting to say something but, I'm sure there was nothing important....

Oct. 29

Doubtless there are countless little things I've forgotten to say over the weeks, like mentioning Halloween things my parents have given me, or whatever. Things I've eaten or drunk or watched or read or thought of or done. I dunno, I doubt any of it's important. But we're getting close now to the actual holiday. Um... this morning I watched last night's "Subterranean" video block from MTV2, and it was kinda Halloweeny. Well, I never really watch it, I mostly fast forward thru it and stop to watch a little bit of each video before deciding I don't care. Today was no different. Still it was interesting. The most Halloweeny video was "Horny in a Hearse" by the Nekromantix. Not a bad song, and a pretty cool animated video set largely in a graveyard and there was a hot girl. In fact the more I think of it I wish I had copied it to disc, but it's too late now. Deleted the recording. Oh well, it's on YouTube, so I added it to my sights & sounds page...

Also today I watched something I recorded the other day, "Wicked Little Things." It wasn't very good, but I wrote up a review nevertheless, chiefly as an excuse to move any movies in my film review section under the "scary movies" category to a new page. The setup of this page is like that of my anime reviews, and eventually I intend to set up all my TV and movie reviews this way, but... I never have time. At least I got one category done, now. I should also do it with Halloween TV movies, perhaps I shall do that today, as well.... (edit: I did. See? -edit 2008: I've been updating links in my journal entries from previous years, so the new links may not seem new, but they were when I wrote this entry last year.)

Oct. 30

Well, so far not doing anything Halloweeny today, basically just working on my calendar for November, which doesn't really leave me time for anything else, since I have to leave for work early, so as to get my check and go to the bank before my shift. But I did get a Halloween card in the mail from the parents, with a check, which is convenient since, as I may have mentioned, I'm going to the bank today....

Oct. 31

Well, I should mention that yesterday I watched the Boondocks, which it only occurred to me later was rather Halloweeny, since Tom was possessed by a ghost that was released from Hell, and Uncle Ruckus tried to exorcise it... Also yesterday, after work I watched Astroboy, which I suppose was a bit... well there were mammoth snails, that's scary, right? Plus a Halloween episode of Reaper. Appropriate enough, for Devil's Night. That was fun. This morning I watched Roxy Hunter and the Mystery of the Moody Ghost, which wasn't scary in the least and had very little to do with any actual ghosts, but it was still a better movie than I expected. So, now... what other boring details can I bore you with? One day a couple weeks ago I took a picture with my cellphone of a pumpkin I saw at a restaurant, and another day I did the same with another pumpkin somewhere else. I haven't gotten myself a pumpkin, but perhaps these will be good enough. I should stick the pictures here, then...

Well. Walked to one store to get the beer I wanted. It was gone. Walked to a further store (in the opposite direction), and the last six-pack was missing one bottle. And I didn't want a 12-pack. But they discounted the price of the 6-pack, so I got it. Also wanted Pumpkin Delights; thought I wouldn't find any, but finally I found 2 boxes, and got one. yay. Came home, had a green apple soda, now it grows late and I must prepare to leave for work. no doubt I'm forgetting to say important things, but whatever. It doesn't matter....

Later that night... Well, at work I played some Halloween CDs. Hurrah. After work I picked up a black cat pez dispenser at walmart. I almost bought some Boo Berry cereal, too, but I didn't. Come home and put a few more pics up here. There's two plush things mom gave me when she and dad were visiting awhile ago, plus a ceramic jack-o-lantern with a tea light, what dad gave me awhile before that. So look.

And I am now trying Gritty McDuff's Halloween Ale, which is actually pretty good. I believe I shall have another. And so some more stuff online. And maybe watch a DVD. I dunno. I hope I'm not forgetting anything....

Nov. 1

So, I had this double feature DVD, a Frankenstein movie and a Dracula movie, which I got months ago and wanted to watch on Halloween. But it was pretty late when I got offline last night, so... I considered watching one of the movies, but I didn't. Just went to bed. This morning I watched the first movie on the disc, The Curse of Frankenstein, which was okay, but not that interesting. Still, I wrote a review. Went to the store, redeemed some empty bottles, bought some Autumn Ale, and... a double feature DVD, a couple of "Tales From the Crypt" movies. Maybe I'll watch that next Halloween. We'll see. Don't think there's anything else worth mentioning today, but there will be a few more things over the next few days I reckon....

Nov. 2

Well, last night I watched this week's Halloween episode of Pushing Daisies, which was cool. Today I watched "Taste the Blood of Dracula," the second movie on the horror double feature DVD. I liked it better than the Frankenstein movie. And I wrote a review. And that's all I've got to say for now, I guess.

So here's the thing. Shows like "Reaper" and "Pushing Daisies" might make a point of mentioning it's Halloween, but how much does that necessarily differentiate one episode from another in shows which are basically supernatural every week? Speaking of which, I just watched this week's episode of "Supernatural." I think at one point it was mentioned in passing that Halloween was coming up, or something. But was the plot particularly Halloweeny? It involved fairy tale-based deaths. *shrug* Could be construed as Halloweeny, but again, what episode couldn't? Whatever, it was cool anyway....

Nov. 4

This morning watched a movie on the DVR, Devil's Diary. It wasn't that bad, kind of scary in some places. Tonight of course is the Simpsons' Treehouse of Horror episode and a Halloween episode of Desperate Housewives. Both I shall record while at work and watch later. Maybe I'll talk about them here later.

Nov. 9

So, I never said anything about Simpsons or Housewives. Well, they were both okay. Liked what Marge did with the logos and whatnot. Um... tried watching this "Wraiths of Roanoke" movie one day this past week, but gave up pretty quickly. Also I spilled pomegranate seeds all over and had to throw them out, but I'd eaten enough before that happened anyway. But I thought I was done with this year's journal, no need to mention any of that stuff... until tonight.

Might as well get that out of the way because tonight I wanted to mention Avatar: The Last Airbender's new episode, "The Puppet Master." It was a perfect episode for Halloween, as it started with the kids telling ghost stories by a camp fire, and ended with bloodbending....
